FPTA State Key Contact
The Key Contact group is a grassroots organization. It was developed so that
each states senator and state representative are paired with a Physical Therapist
constituent. The members in the key contact group establish relationships with
their legislators and serve as a resource for physical therapy.
Two years ago an Egroup was formed on “Yahoo” and called “Key
Contacts”. This egroup is now the main exchange of legislative information
from the State Key Contact Chair to its members. Tips on how to talk to a legislator
as well as informative talking points for physical therapy issues are also disseminated
to each member. Hopefully this should make it easier for members to talk with
their legislators in a comfortable and confident manner.
Membership is open to any FPTA member. To become a member of this egroup, contact
the current state Key Contact coordinator, Ken Jacobs PT, ATC at KJ858@aol.com.
Each district as well has a district key contact chair and their regional directors
that they may contact as well.
Recent activities of the Key Contact egroup are:
1) Possibly putting a halt to privatization of the Board of Physical Therapy.
2) Informing the egroup about APTA’s efforts with Medicare and the $1500
cap on physical therapy.
3) Placing a legislator list by districts and map of Florida with district lines.
4) Tips on “how to contact your legislator.”
5) Current FPTA legislative platforms.
